I made a Holdfasts clamp using a screw and a square pipe. Very easy to use and can be fixed firmly. Parts list ・adjuster bolt 🤍 ・plastic knob 🤍 ・Square pipe 🤍
Got a tip, send me an email (and get credited)! → 🤍 The holdfast is a steal hook that quickly holds down your work with the swing of a mallet. This tool is more than 300 years old and can be found in Joseph Moxon’s Mechanick exercise book written in 1692. It’s best selling features are its speed, durability and simplicity. Instead of wrestling with clamps to keep things from moving, it only takes a single blow to keep things in place. The only requirements you’ll need for this is a hole and a mallet. As far as bench thickness requirements, this tool actually does better with thinner bench tops and does fine with softwood like my pine bench top. You might be tempted to clamp your work in a vise, but any downward pressure you put on it, like swinging a mallet against a chisel, means possible movement. With a holdfast, you can hold work down and don’t have to worry about it moving with blunt force. The downfall to these simple tools is that there is a chance of the work pivoting, but this can be taken care of with a piece of leather on the end of your hooks. My favorite part of these tools is how easy it is to remove and put them away. Smack them on the back edge and they pop up and your work is free. If you’re interested, you could buy these online but it’s much more gratifying picking them up from a local smith. Become a patron! → Patreon.com/makethings/ Thank you to my patrons! For a step by step, click here → 🤍 12 more table saw tips (compilation) → 🤍 It should go without saying that preserving the face of the table saw fence is a big deal. With a fence chewed out by mistaken blade cuts, it’s difficult to get perfect parallel action. And as much as we try to keep the fence far away from the blade, there are, of course, times where we need to be within kissing distance of that spinning monster. To get close to the blade, add a sacrificial fence. Now there are a lot of different ways to add a sacrificial fence, depending on the type of table saw fence that you have. A universal, simple method is to buy a U bolt. Measure the width of your fence and head to the hardware store. You’ll want a square “u” bolt, but the most important part is the threaded end. This part needs to be wider than your table saw fence. Back home, cut the u-bolt in half, drill a hole in your sacrificial fence and add the u-bolt. Add a wood washer on the other side of your fence and thread on a knob.

Support me on Patreon: 🤍 Follow me on Instagram: 🤍 Videos auf Deutsch: 🤍 This week I built a set of six long bar clamps. I bought a couple meters of flat steel, cut it into pieces and welded everything back together in the shape of a clamp. Simple! For the spindles I used pieces of M16 threaded rod. Talking about machinery, all you really need for making a set of these clamps is a grinder, a drill and a welder. However, a chop saw is very convenient and of course I just had to show off my new homemade belt grinder.

Most woodworkers say you can never have enough clamps. I say throw your clamps away and make this DIY panel clamp instead (or at least buy fewer clamps 😉). This DIY melamine clamping panel is a super simple design and can take the place of multiple metal parallel, bar, or f-style clamps in your shop. You can easily make this woodworking panel clamp in an afternoon with basic tools, and it will last for years. The best part? This panel clamp costs under $20 to make! It uses less than a quarter sheet of melamine, a 16" length of dowel, and a few small scrap boards. ⏳ Timestamps 0:00 - Introduction 0:11 - Materials 0:30 - Construction of the clamping panel 2:00 - Drilling grid of holes for the clamping panel 3:36 - How to use the clamping panel 🛠️ Tools and materials ▸ Sawstop Table saw – the best table saw I’ve ever had 🤍 ▸ Bosch 12V MAX Drill/Driver combo: 🤍 ▸ DeWalt Trim Router: 🤍 ▸ Forstner bit set: 🤍 ▸ More tools: 🤍 Disclosure: Links to tools and material are affiliate links. You don't need to spend tons of money on expensive Kreg right angle clamps! This pocket hole hack is a great way to make sure that you get perfectly flush pocket hole joints every. Single. Time! This Kreg Pocket Hole Jig Hack is super easy. Line up the joint, making sure the two boards are flush. Then, use an air nailer to shoot one or two pin nails into the end of the joint, holding the two boards in place. At this point, the joint is NOT very strong, but that's what pocket holes are for! Now, just use your driver to install a few pocket hole screws - no clamps needed! The pocket hole joint will stay perfectly aligned. No slipping or sliding. For a final, professional touch, use a small amount of wood filler to hit the pin or brad nail holes on the face of the board. What super awesome hacks do you use in the shop?
