ASHDASH engine control extension module for auto tuning and variable map loading. This setup uses an Arduino Micro to control an NVSRAM 32KX8 memory module. Address lines are handled by a pair of 8-bit shift registers and data lines are handled direct from the Arduino's IO header. High-speed SPDT analog switches are used to toggle IO from/to the NVSRAM between the Nissan ECU's processors and the Arduino's interface. Chip Enable and Output Enable from the engine computer are monitored to allow for "hidden" writes to the NVSRAM module when the chip is not being accessed by the ECU's processors. This will allow for engine runtime parameter changes while the engine is still running. The primary motive here is to couple this with the "AshDASH" glass dashboard system run by the Raspberry Pi3B+ to allow for several features: 1) Multiple map storage and loading 2) Flex-Fuel auto-map loading 3) Long-term fuel calibrations to mappings using wideband O2 feedback. 4) The Arduino Micro also has 6 available 10-bit resolution A-D channels which can be used for additional sensor input which can be relayed to the dash system and displayed. What you see here is the prototyping of the circuitry and coding. The finished electronics module will be no larger than about 2"X2" in size and plug directly into the EPROM socket within the ECU.

This is my 95 S14 240sx running with a hacked together U12 ECU and S14 harness, running STi 650cc injectors and a N60 maf. The ECU is tunable on-the-fly with Nemesys and a NVSRAM daughterboard. Logging/updating is done over a standard serial to Consult adapter. Obviously some kinks to work out.

Converting a GBA game over to battery-less saving (SRAM to FRAM)

If your game is one of the 23 or so in this list (not counting Pokemon!), then it may use battery backed SRAM: 🤍 Do note that there may be extra games that are not listed in the above list but this will still work for any OEM GBA games that use SRAM. This will not work for any bootleg or repro games or especially other GBA games that do not use SRAM. Early in the GBA life-cycle, some games were still being made with SRAM chips for save functionality. Unfortunately, this means that when the battery inside these carts dies (which may not be for another five to ten years depending on the cart), the save function will no longer work and all data will be lost. It's pretty easy to just swap a new battery in at this time and just call it a day since these batteries seem to last a while anyway, but there is another option. Quite a few games also shipped with FRAM instead of SRAM. FRAM is functionally identical to SRAM (in this usage) except that it does not require a battery to retain data. Some games shipped in both FRAM versions and SRAM versions while some games were just one or the other. In the case of Metroid Fusion, that game shipped as both but mine happens to be the SRAM version. All that you need to do is swap the physical SRAM chip for a FRAM chip, but if you have a compatible board donor, it's better to swap the MROM chips around that way both of your games are still functional (albeit one of them will still need a battery). All SRAM games should be compatible with AGB-E11-01 PCBs (these are guaranteed FRAM) and you can just swap the MROM chip around. See this thread for more details: 🤍 There is no reason you cannot back up your save beforehand and then write it back to the cart after swapping. I did not do that in this instance because I did not care about the save data on either cart. In some cases, the existing save data on the FRAM game may cause issues for the SRAM game so it is best practice to backup and restore your save data just in case. If you do not already have a cart reader capable of doing this, you can read about the most common ones in the wiki I've been compiling and maintaining: 🤍 A note on third gen Pokemon games, specifically Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald these games DO use a battery but NOT for saving. The battery is for RTC ONLY so swapping these boards will only serve to break RTC AND saves. SRAM or FRAM games are only compatible with SRAM or FRAM and mixing and matching is fine. Any other games will not work with SRAM or FRAM. EEPROM games only work with EEPROM and so on.

This paper proposes a novel scheme for a low-power non-volatile (NV) memory that exploits a two-level arrangement for attaining single event/multiple bit upsets (SEU/MBU) tolerance. Low-power hardened NVSRAM cell designs are initially utilized at the first level; these designs increase the critical charge and decrease power consumption by providing a positive (virtual) ground level voltage. A soft error rate (SER) analysis is also pursued to confirm the findings of the critical charge-based analysis. Simulation of these cells shows that their operation has a very high SEU tolerance, the charges in the nodes of the circuits for non-volatile storage and gate leakage current reduction have very high values, thus ensuring that a SEU will highly unlike affect the correct functions. A novel memory scheme with the proposed NVSRAM cells is proposed for tolerating MBU; in this scheme, only the error detection circuitry is required, because error correction is provided by the non-volatile elements of the NVSRAM cells. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme is very efficient in terms of delay and number of transistors (as measure of complexity). Moreover, the very high critical charge of some of the proposed cell designs reduces the number of MBU appearing as errors at the outputs of the memory, thus further reducing the error detection hardware required by the proposed scheme. An extensive evaluation and comparison of different schemes are presented.

Several versions of memory technologies have been implemented in today's processor units and systems. Each have different specs for multiple level of utilizations. SRAM is preferred for embedded fast memory near processor unit, where (embedded) DRAM at the next level since it's slower but denser than SRAM. On the other hand, NAND Flash has been the choice for Storage non-volatile memory due to its superb density and cost. Meanwhile, new memory technologies such as STTRAM and RRAM are emerging to compete with all types of volatile and non-volatile memory types due to its either density or lower power. Speaker: Fatih Hamzaoglu (SM 11) received the B.Sc. degree from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 1996, the M.S. degree from Clemson University, Clemson, SC, in 1998, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, in 2002, all in Electrical Engineering. After finishing the Ph.D., he joined Portland Technology Development, Intel Corporation, and since then, he has been working on low-power high-performance memory designs, including SRAM, DRAM and Non-Volatile Memories. Currently, he�s a Principal Engineer and leading the High Density Memory Group at Intel Corporation. He is the author or coauthor of more than 30 papers and inventor or co-inventor of more than 15 patents.
